Sowing in Springtime

Seeds ready for planting

Seeds ready for planting

Last year I planted my seeds in February, largely because I just couldn’t wait to get started. This year, things were a little more hectic so I didn’t begin my spring planting until two weeks ago but I’m being more ambitious this year.

So far, I’ve planted the following:

Basil
Beetroot
Broad beans
Butternut Squash
Carrots
Chilli Peppers
Courgettes
Cucumbers
Melon
Onion
Rosemary
Spring Onion
Sweet Peppers
Tomatoes

I’m dubious about the melons but they’re Unwin’s Gro-sure seeds so I’m giving them a go and they have sprouted. Ten days later and I’ve already had to pot up the courgettes and cucumbers, and everything in the propogator bar the rosemary and sweet peppers have germinated. I can’t wait for the sweet peppers to sprout. They were incredible last year – even though they took a long time to ripen, the plants were a beautifully rich addition to the garden and when they were ready to eat, the peppers were delicious.

At the moment, the daffodils and grape hyacinths are out in my garden but the beds are pretty empty, waiting for me to plant out. I can’t wait for the frosts to be done – roll on summer!
